Allegiant Adds Free Drinks and Premium Seating

Allegiant Travel Company is rolling out complimentary in‑flight beverages and a new premium seating class as part of a broader effort to upgrade its leisure‑focused service.

Free beverage service starts August 2026

Effective August 1, 2026, every passenger on an Allegiant flight will receive a free beverage. The offering includes sodas, juice and water, with Allways Rewards Visa cardholders gaining access to an expanded menu that adds coffee, protein shakes, sports drinks and alcoholic drinks with a mixer, capped at a $16 value per flight. Cardholders must be at least 21 and present valid identification for alcoholic selections.

Allegiant First premium seats debut in 2027

Allegiant First, the airline’s new premium class, is slated to appear on selected aircraft beginning in spring 2027. The configuration will feature eight seats arranged two‑by‑two at the front of the cabin, each with a five‑inch recline, calf rests, an adjustable headrest and a 37‑inch pitch that provides extra legroom.

Passengers will also enjoy priority check‑in and boarding, along with a baggage allowance that includes one personal item, one carry‑on and one checked bag up to 70 pounds.

The new class will sit alongside Allegiant Extra.

According to the filing, sales will open in mid‑August and the rollout will be gradual. This layered approach is meant to give leisure travelers a broader selection of comfort levels, from basic economy to a more refined experience.

The rollout aligns with the ongoing integration of Allegiant and Sun Country, which the companies say will create a more consistent onboard product across the combined network. By standardizing amenities such as free drinks and premium seating, the merged airline hopes to attract a wider range of vacationers, from budget‑conscious flyers to those willing to pay for added comfort.

For many travelers, the added beverage options mean a small but noticeable improvement to a short flight. A free coffee or a juice can make a difference when the journey is under two hours, and the ability to choose an alcoholic drink without extra cost may appeal to those looking to unwind before reaching their destination.

The premium seats, with their wider spacing and recline, could also reduce the fatigue associated with longer trips, especially on routes that currently offer only standard economy seating.

Implications for the leisure airline market

Industry analysts have noted that airlines focused on vacation travel are increasingly adding ancillary services to differentiate themselves. The combination of free drinks and a higher‑tier seating product places Allegiant in line with competitors that have introduced similar upgrades in recent years.

While the exact pricing for Allegiant First has not been disclosed, the airline indicated that the fare will include the expanded baggage allowance and priority services, suggesting a bundled value proposition rather than a simple seat upgrade fee. More details on aircraft deployment, specific routes and onboard features are expected later in 2026.

Overall, the new offerings represent a notable shift for an airline traditionally known for its no‑frills approach. Whether the changes will attract enough higher‑spending travelers to offset the added costs remains to be seen, but the strategy reflects a clear intent to broaden the airline’s appeal as it moves forward with its merger plans.
