On September 24, American Cruise Lines held a christening ceremony for the American Ranger at Historic Catskill Point in Catskill, New York, as the vessel embarked on its inaugural Hudson River Fall Foliage cruise.

The American Ranger is the fourth ship in the Patriot Class series and can accommodate 130 guests, all of whom stay in staterooms that include private balconies. The vessel features four passenger decks and offers a mix of single cabins, standard rooms and larger suites, providing a range of options for travelers.

The maiden voyage follows a nine-day itinerary that starts with an overnight hotel stay in New York City. After departing the city, the ship sails north through the Hudson Valley, calling at Catskill, then proceeding to West Point, followed by a stop at the historic Sleepy Hollow estate, and concluding the river segment with visits to Kingston and Hyde Park. Each port showcases lively foliage, historic estates, museums and local vineyards.

The company states that its Hudson River itineraries are the only overnight river cruises currently operating on this waterway, distinguishing the service from day-trip alternatives.

Public areas on board include a top-deck lounge equipped with a walking track, a chart room for navigation enthusiasts, a main restaurant serving regional cuisine, a casual café, a fitness centre, and self-service laundry facilities, all designed to enhance passenger comfort.

This modest capacity enables the vessel to serve domestic rivers and coastal routes that larger mainstream cruise ships cannot access, allowing it to reach smaller ports and more intimate destinations.

In 2027 the cruises will run round-trip from Albany rather than mainly between New York City and Albany, while still offering excursions in the city. Summer Classic departures are scheduled to start in June 2027 and the Fall Foliage program will return in September of that year.

The 2026 schedule is already largely sold out, with the final cruise of the season slated to begin on October 25, indicating strong demand for the new river experience.

The operator plans to add three more vessels in 2027: sister ships American Mariner and American Navigator, plus the modern riverboat American Anthem. These additions will expand capacity on the Hudson, Mississippi, Columbia and Snake rivers as well as on selected coastal destinations.
