Malaysia Airlines is targeting British Formula 1 enthusiasts with a Southeast Asian route enabling them to participate in two Grand Prix events just seven days apart, while also offering a broader vacation experience in Malaysia.
Formula 1 Returns to Sepang After Nine Years
Formula 1 makes its comeback at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit from October 2 to 4, marking its first appearance since 2017. The venue will host the relocated 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix, which maintains its official Bahrain Grand Prix identity despite being held in Malaysia. The October 2-4 weekend includes practice on Friday, qualifying on Saturday, and the race on Sunday, October 4.
Five days after the Sepang event concludes, Formula 1 action begins again in Singapore, where the Singapore Grand Prix takes place at Marina Bay from October 9 to 11. This year’s Singapore race will also debut the circuit’s inaugural F1 Sprint, adding another competitive session for attendees during the three-day weekend. The tight scheduling provides a unique opportunity for global motorsport fans to experience consecutive Formula 1 events without undertaking two separate long-haul flights from Europe.
Exploring Beyond the Track
Malaysia Airlines is encouraging travelers not to treat Kuala Lumpur merely as a transit point between the two races. International passengers connecting through Kuala Lumpur can utilize the airline’s Bonus Side Trip programme to add a domestic flight to one of eight Malaysian destinations without paying an additional base fare, though taxes will still apply.
The available options include Langkawi, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu, Kuantan, Alor Setar, Kuala Terengganu, and Kuching. This creates multiple itinerary possibilities between the two Formula 1 weekends. Visitors might enjoy Langkawi’s beaches, explore George Town and Penang’s culinary scene, or journey to Kuching before continuing to Singapore for the second race. The airline also highlights offerings such as Malaysian-inspired meals, MHstudio in-flight entertainment, and complimentary unlimited Wi-Fi available on select aircraft.
