American Airlines is extending its partnership with Texas‑based barbecue joint Pecan Lodge, adding the restaurant’s smoked brisket sandwich and barbecue platter to First Class menus on all eligible domestic flights departing from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) beginning Sept. 9.
New menu rollout and customer options
Passengers flying from DFW can now preorder the smoked brisket sandwich for lunch or the barbecue platter for dinner on qualifying flights. The dishes were first introduced as a limited‑time offering, and the airline says positive customer response spurred the broader rollout.
“Customer feedback on the Pecan Lodge menu offering has been overwhelmingly positive, and we’re excited to expand this offering across flights from our hometown hub,” said Rhonda Crawford, American’s senior vice president of Customer Experience Design and Strategy. “Pecan Lodge’s bold Texas flavors translate exceptionally well at altitude, making it a great choice for customers looking to enjoy a memorable dining experience in the air.”

The carrier’s in‑flight catering team worked with the restaurant to adapt the recipes for airline service, ensuring the meat stays tender and the sauces retain their flavor profile despite the cabin environment.
Behind the collaboration
Justin Fourton, pit master and co‑owner of Pecan Lodge, emphasized the care taken to preserve the authenticity of the dishes. “Every recipe we serve has a story behind it, and a lot of care goes into getting it right,” he said. “Barbecue is deeply personal to us, so scaling these dishes for an airline without compromising the quality and flavors our guests expect was incredibly important.”
The partnership reflects the carrier’s broader strategy to highlight regional food brands and improve its overall dining program. Recent upgrades include a champagne selection that ranks among the most extensive in U.S. carriers, new California wines in premium cabins, and premium Lavazza coffee on all mainline flights. An expanded snack menu is also available for purchase in Main Cabin.

The initiative has been well received.
From a broader perspective, this move mirrors a trend among legacy carriers to differentiate their premium cabins through locally sourced, high‑profile menu items, a tactic that has shown mixed results in past attempts. While some airlines have struggled to maintain consistency, the focus on a well‑known regional brand may give this effort a better chance of sustaining passenger interest.
American says the addition of Pecan Lodge items is part of its ongoing effort to provide a “true taste of Texas” to passengers traveling across the country. The website lists the new menu options alongside other First Class choices, and customers can select them during the standard pre‑flight booking process.
