Westin to open first Gold Coast hotel

The Gold Coast hotel boom continues as Marriott International confirmed a deal to launch the brand’s first Westin on the coastal strip, with a projected opening in late 2029.

Project details and location

The new Westin will be a 138‑room, new‑build property situated within a mixed‑use tower that rises from the sixth to the twenty‑fifth floor. Developed under a franchise agreement with Australian firm M Property, it will occupy a prominent spot near the city’s light rail network, offering easy access for both visitors and locals.

Of the total rooms, 115 will be premium guestrooms while 23 will be suites, each promising views of either the Pacific Ocean or the hinterland. The design calls for a “Heavenly Spa by Westin,” a dedicated fitness studio, an infinity pool, and a pool bar. A signature restaurant and bar, plus meeting and conference spaces, are also slated for inclusion, along with dedicated guest parking.

Management and brand strategy

Management responsibilities have been awarded to La Vie Hotels & Resorts, an independent operator expanding its portfolio across the Asia‑Pacific region. CEO Jerry Xu described the appointment as a “proud milestone” that validates the platform the company has built. He added that the partnership “reflects the quality of the project and the continued growth of La Vie as a leading independent hotel management platform.”

Marriott’s Director of Hotel Development for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, Tristan Cooper, said the area was a “natural fit for the brand,” noting strong performance across the existing Westin portfolio in both domestic and international source markets that feed the Gold Coast. He expressed excitement about introducing “a genuine point of difference to the market.”

The Westin will align with the brand’s Sleep Well, Eat Well and Move Well pillars, aiming to attract both leisure travelers and the business events market. The inclusion of wellness‑focused amenities such as the spa and fitness studio adds a distinct angle to Marriott’s growing presence, which already includes the JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa and the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort.

Construction is part of a larger mixed‑use development that will also host retail and residential components. The project’s street‑level arrival and landscaped podium are designed to integrate with the surrounding urban fabric, providing a seamless experience for guests moving between the hotel and nearby attractions.

Marriott International’s pipeline on the Gold Coast includes four additional properties in various stages of planning, indicating a sustained commitment to the area. The Westin’s addition will bring the total number of Marriott‑branded hotels to at least six, reinforcing the city’s reputation as a major destination for both leisure and business travel.

While the 2029 opening date places the Westin among the later projects in the current development cycle, the long‑term outlook suggests that the property will be ready to meet demand as travel patterns stabilize post‑pandemic.

Its anticipated amenities, combined with a strategic location, should make it a competitive option for event planners and leisure guests alike.

The hotel adds another layer to the region’s expanding hospitality scene.
