MSC Cruises unveils 2028 Alaska voyages

MSC Cruises has opened bookings for its 2028 Alaska season, the third consecutive year the line will sail from Seattle. The MSC Poesia will run weekly seven-night cruises from April 24 to September 18, 2028, continuing a program that began in 2023.

Lynn Torrent, president of MSC Cruises North America, said Alaska attracts travelers with its natural beauty, wildlife, and adventure. “Guests appreciate the area’s mix of European style and American comfort,” she said. “The ship delivers glacier viewing, shore excursions, and quality onboard services in one trip.”

Itinerary and Ship Improvements

The 2028 route includes Ketchikan, known for its fishing history and Indigenous culture, and Icy Strait Point, an Indigenous-owned destination with outdoor activities. Tracy Arm, a fjord with waterfalls and glacier views, is another highlight. Stops also cover Juneau, Alaska’s capital, and Victoria, British Columbia.

The MSC Poesia recently completed a major update. A new MSC Yacht Club was added, featuring 69 suites, 24-hour butler service, and private areas. Two specialty restaurants opened: Butcher’s Cut, an American steakhouse, and Kaito Sushi Bar, serving Asian dishes. The ship also gained an expanded spa, gym, and a solarium for premium guests.

Cruise Director Matías Chimicz said passengers are most impressed by Alaska’s glaciers and wildlife. “Whales, orcas, and bald eagles appear right from the deck,” he said. “The long daylight in the Inside Passage makes every moment memorable.” Entertainment includes live music, stage shows, and Dirty Dancing: In Concert, a live performance synced to the film.

North American Expansion Plans

The Alaska season is part of MSC Cruises’ broader North American deployment, which includes departures from Miami, Port Canaveral, Galveston, and La Romana. The company’s “Best Holiday Ever” pledge covers accommodations, travel logistics, dining, and entertainment for a hassle-free experience.

Bookings for 2027 Alaska sailings are already open, running from April 26 to September 27. At the start and end of each season, MSC Grand Voyages provide Panama Canal crossings between Miami and Seattle.

Alaska’s cruise industry has recovered well since the pandemic. Demand comes from travelers wanting outdoor experiences and unique destinations. MSC’s decision to extend its presence shows confidence in lasting interest. Competition among cruise lines remains strong, but the state’s strict environmental rules and limited port capacity have required adjustments. Still, the appeal of glaciers, wildlife, and coastal towns keeps drawing visitors.

Alaska’s tourism growth aligns with a broader industry recovery seen in other major events.

Prices and cabin options for the 2028 sailings are available on MSC Cruises’ website.
